Course Description

3 Key Objectives:

1. Board Readiness: 

  • Equip aspiring board members with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, ensuring they are fully prepared for the demands of governance in a nonprofit or charity setting. 

2. Legal and Regulatory Knowledge: 

  • Provide a foundational understanding of the key points in the Commissioner of Charities Act, emphasizing compliance, transparency, and accountability to protect the organization and its mission.

3. Navigating Challenges: 

  • Highlight the major challenges faced by nonprofits and charities, and share strategies to effectively address issues like fundraising, volunteer management, and maintaining a positive reputation.

By the end of this training, participants will:

  • Understand their Role: Have a clear grasp of the duties and expectations of a nonprofit board member, and be confident in stepping into a governance role.
  • Be Legally Aware: Know the key provisions of the Commissioner of Charities Act and how to ensure their organization remains compliant and transparent in its operations.
  • Be Equipped to Tackle Challenges: Be aware of the common hurdles nonprofits face and armed with practical solutions to address funding, volunteer, and reputational challenges effectively.
  • Feel Confident and Ready: Leave with the confidence to contribute positively to a nonprofit board, ready to guide the organization towards fulfilling its mission while adhering to best practices in governance and accountability.

Zulaifah Abdul Ghani

Zulaifah is a former CFO with over three decades of experience in multinational and government-linked companies, including Citibank, Malaysia Airlines, and Singapore Post. She excels in corporate finance, transformation, M&A, strategic procurement, and managing large-scale operations and start-ups. Currently, she is the Honorary Treasurer/Board Member of PPIS, board member of Image Mission Ltd and Board of Trustees at the Rahmatan Lil-Alamin Foundation.She also volunteers as Review Board Member for the Children and Young Persons Home with the Ministry of Social and Family Development. Zulaifah is committed to empowering women, sharing her career and life journey to support others in achieving their goals. Her leadership and advocacy for change define her impactful professional and personal endeavours.
